How to Play World Cup Squares

Pick a match and write the two team names in the header areas. Each person writes their initials in any open squares until all 100 are claimed. Then draw the digits 0 through 9 randomly and write them across the top row and down the left column.

At full time, match the last digit of each team's score to the grid. The person whose initials sit at that intersection earns bragging rights. For extra fun, also check the score at halftime.

Squares works for any World Cup match, but knockout rounds are the most compelling. Print a fresh copy for the Round of 32, the Quarterfinals, and the Final. No soccer knowledge required to play.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is the squares template free?

Yes. Download, print, and use for any World Cup match. No email or signup required.

Why draw numbers after squares are claimed?

Drawing digits randomly after everyone picks prevents people from choosing "good" squares. Soccer scores are low, so the 0 and 1 squares would be fought over otherwise.

What if the match goes to extra time?

Use the score after 90 minutes for the main result. Extra time and penalties are a separate bonus round if your group wants to add one.
